Knowledge Magazine 85

Here’s the lowdown on the latest issue of Knowledge (K85), now available to buy online at www.knowledgemag.co.uk or in all good newsagents and record shops…

In the space of two years Matt Gresham has gone from being known as simply ‘Nu:Tones’s younger brother’, to Hospital Records’ most valued asset. We catch up behind the scenes at his album photo shoot and find out why now, more than ever, Logistics is ready to turn drum & bass on its head.

With their debut album ‘Northern Soul’ finally ready for release on 9th October, late August was perhaps not the ideal time to try and pin Craggz and Parrallel Forces down for an interview. Finally, after a week long AIM, mobile and email assault, Knowledge managed to entice them down to Carnaby Street for a cheeky pint one Friday afternoon.

DJ Friction lines up double-drops like lambs to the slaughter – he’s done it from day one and, as you’re about to find out, plans to do so for the forseeable future.

With a string of releases and remixes across established labels including No U-Turn, Prototype, and Renegade Hardware amongst others, Fierce AKA Daniel Burke, decided to unleash his own Quarantine Recordings on the scene in 2001

Retaining the Moving Fusion moniker for his solo venture, Jeff Langton, famous for drum & bass classics like ‘Turbulence’, ‘The Beginning’, ‘Atlantis’ and ‘Guy Fawkes’, has returned after a brief hiatus with the purpose of evolving his famous sound to new levels and starting a new label.

Inner City Dwellers are MC Rage, his younger brother Disgusto, first cousin Nabru and best mate Kivanc. Together they stand tall on their debut single ‘Rude Boy’. The message? Just say no.

Producers / DJs Serum and Bladerunner represent the future for Ray Keith’s 12-year-old label, Dread Recordings, and the pair must be talented for the original jungle renegade, one of drum & bass’s founding fathers, to entrust his label in these hands.

In Digital Nation, MJ Cole gives us the guided tour of his new studio and delves into his production techniques. He also reminds us he’s a drum & bass head…

We also check in with Krafty Kuts, DJ Ital, DJ Trax, DC Breaks, Jamal and Mary Anne Hobbs, peer into the twisted urban artworld of the talented Wish One and offer you the chance of winning some heavy duty equipment in our dope competition. If that wasn’t enough give us all severe RSIs, we also have all the latest games, books, websites, news, fashion, cool shit, DJ equipment, clubs, plus all we review the movies and DVD's to keep your probing minds at bay for another month.

Knowledge checks out booking agency ESP International to find out about their role within the drum & bass scene. They’re also passionate about the music and one half of the team, Alley Cat, has mixed this issue’s cover CD featuring tracks from artists represented by the agency.
